Can an electric water heater work in tandem with an oil fired boiler with domestic water?

should the electric heater be installed before or after the domestic supply and what pecautions are necessaryCan an electric water heater work in tandem with an oil fired boiler with domestic water?
Yes it can, but you better know what you're doing.

I'm assuming you have a tankless coil in your boiler for domestic water heating or you have a heat exchanger. If you don't, forget it. You'll be mixing boiler water with potable water.

If you have a tankless coil in the boiler, go through the tankless coil first, then to the water heater - this way you have a storage tank for the hot water before it goes to the house.

A better way is to add a small circulator to circulate water from the coil to the tank so that it is kept at a constant. You use a secondary thermostat on the tank to cycle the circulatorCan an electric water heater work in tandem with an oil fired boiler with domestic water?
I do understand that you intend to use the water heater as a heat source and not solely as a storage tank, I was just explaining that piping it with the pump gives you the extra capacity pumping between the 2.

It really doesn't matter which heat source is piped in first. Report Abuse

There should be no problem with the working in tandem. Put a ';Y'; connection from the cold supply and also a ';Y'; connection from the heaters going to your home feed in. This will allow the one set hottest to feed first and will always equal out the volume temp. try and set them the same temp as possible.
Absolutely, as long as the water feeding the electric heater is cold. That would be before the domestic hot water.
You might want to make sure your heater is rated for this. In my instruction sheet it said that mine could be used in conjunction with a heating system. I would contact the manufacturer first before I did anything. Better safe then scalded!

  • What is the name of a plant that is covered with oil, and in a fire it survies it is like a fire starter?

    it is covered with oil

it can survive a fireWhat is the name of a plant that is covered with oil, and in a fire it survies it is like a fire starter?
The eucalyptus tree. Only the seeds survive a fire, but they grow faster than anything else in the forest.

The eucalyptus is chock full of flammable resins, and the bark and leaves are made to ignite easily.

So the tree deliberately burns down the forest and all its competition.

flour and bleach mixed as a poltice, leave an hour at a time, again you may get a light patch after, then have to clean the whole thing. you could try a sprinkle of talc powder leave it on for a hour or so and then brush off
try baking soda dry it should draw up the oil with a wicking action
You can get products from D.I.Y. stores for cleaning oil off driveways.
Pour some dry detergent washing powder in a small heap on the stain, and leave over night.
Keep plugging away with a mild detergent.
    Hello,

    Not a problem..........

Get some lime putty and apply to the affected area and this will ';suck'; the stain out. Rinse off after. You may need to apply to the whole surround if it cleans the area too much! (try on unseen area if your unsure).

I believe the putty is available but only in large qty's. You can make it yourself but would suggest getting info before you try it.

I have an oil boiler but would like the stove to look at flame and heat house. Cannot find stove to do both. Ireland or UK pleaseI am looking for an oil-fired stove to hear my 8 rads. Can anyone suggest where I buy one.?
Can`t offhand think of any oil fired stoves where the fire is visible,as most of them are cooking stoves as well. Rayburns will heat up to 12 rads and are great for cooking on and in. Oil fires don`t look that good anyway.I am looking for an oil-fired stove to hear my 8 rads. Can anyone suggest where I buy one.?
    Hi,

ESSE make Oil fired range cookers which will heat water, they also make oil fired stoves with out boilers, the ESSE 200. I'm not familiar with any oil fired boiler stoves which are not cooking ranges, they are mostly solid fuel, see a selection of well priced multi fuel examples here: http://www.gr8fires.co.uk/boiler-stoves-c-54.html

Because of the price of Oil it isn't a popular fuel choice for stoves. Due to the versitility of solid fuels they tend to be the first choice for boiler stoves.

No, I do not have any intentions of making a fire...I have to write a fable for english, and forgot what makes ember into a big fire... If you put oil into embers, will it turn into a big fire?
Yes, you are right! If you look up ';oil well fires'; on Wikipedia or something, you will see what I mean. The oil is a fuel source for the flames.

Also, if you put gasoline to embers, the result is also a larger fire.If you put oil into embers, will it turn into a big fire?
    yes it will

What is given off when oil reacts with fire?

As oxygen may be limited with such a high energy fuel source, you will likely also form carbon monoxide (CO). Also produced will be hydrogen sulphide and other sulphide molecules. Hydrocarbons may not always be composed only of C and H: you will likely find oxidised and reduced forms of N, P and S in the vapour. What is given off when oil reacts with fire?
Oil is essentially a hydrocarbon. If combustion is complete, the carbon burns to carbon dioxide and the hydrogen to water.

    CO2 + H2O

What is given off when oil reacts with fire?
You need to be more specific as there are many kinds of oil and it cannot be assumed that you are referring to for example oil you buy for your car. The chemical reaction will be different according to the properties of the oil thus the vaporised product will also vary.

The most simple answer is to say smoke is given off....

What eternal fuel is used to keep the flames going in the 'eternal lake of fire' in hell? Oil, gas, coal....?

    Hebrews 12:29, ';For our God is a consuming fire.';

Deuteronomy 9:3 ';Understand therefore this day, that the LORD thy God is he which goest over before thee: as a consuming fire, he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down before thy face, so shalt thy drive them out and destroy them quickly, as the LORD has said unto thee.';What eternal fuel is used to keep the flames going in the 'eternal lake of fire' in hell? Oil, gas, coal....?
The lake of fire has a meaning similar to that of ';the fiery Gehenna [hell fire, King James Version]'; that Jesus spoke of. (Matthew 5:22; Mark 9:47, 48) Gehenna occurs 12 times in the Christian Greek Scriptures, and it refers to the valley of Hinnom, outside the walls of Jerusalem. When Jesus was on earth, this valley was used as a garbage dump, ';where the dead bodies of criminals, and the carcasses of animals, and every other kind of filth was cast.'; (Smith's Dictionary of the Bible) The fires were kept burning by adding sulfur to burn up the refuse. Jesus used that valley as a proper symbol of everlasting destruction. What eternal fuel is used to keep the flames going in the 'eternal lake of fire' in hell? Oil, gas, coal....?
    Hell doesn't exist:

    Jude verse 7 says, ';7In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.';

Sodom and Gomorrah clearly are not still burning. so the ';eternal fire'; symbolizes eternal death for those who don't accept the Gift of Salvation from Jesus Christ.

Go to this video to see why the idea of eternal hell has never been in The Bible: http://www.john1429.org/video/sod/sod.ht…
Human stupidity. The vast majority of the grief in the world is fueled by individual or group stupidity. Without it, we would have no wars, no violence toward women, no gangs, no Taliban, no religious fundamentalists, no poverty, no overpopulation, no global warming, and very little news to report.
Hell fire is not eternal. But the fire has eternal consequences.

Hell is the fire that consumes the wicked and purifies the Earth at the end of the millenium. 2 Peter 3:10

After Hell fire, the wicked cease to exist ever again.

  • How does oil give fire strentgh?

Oil is just a fuel for fire the same as anything else that burns. The only other thing you need is oxygen. How does oil give fire strentgh?
probaly because the chemicals in the oilHow does oil give fire strentgh?
    By burning.
I think it's best to understand what fire is to understand the answer to this. Fire is caused by hyrdrocarbon molecules rapidly oxidizing. This means molecules of carbon and hydrogen mix with molecules of oxygen to form carbon dioxide and water. This reaction gives off heat, which is why fire is hot.

At a certain high temperature, these hydrocarbon molecules will combust and react with oxygen to make fire. Oil is such a hydrocarbon molecule, and since a fire is hot, throwing the oil on the fire causes the oil to burn too.

Will the car catch on fire? Should I clean the oil off?Didnt put the oil cap on. I drove a week like that, oil everywhere! What do i do? WIll it catch on fire?
You should buy a degreaser and go to the coin-op car wash. Follow the directions on the can. Try not to get the wires overly wet, leave your car running while you do this.

After that you should get an oil change.

Hopefully you didn't damage the engine by running it with low oil.

Good luck, hope it helpsDidnt put the oil cap on. I drove a week like that, oil everywhere! What do i do? WIll it catch on fire?
I like snakesky's answer, except for the fire.It may be quite smokey but not to much of a fire hazord.Yes clean off the oil. This can be done in many ways.Your choice.
YES.......it can catch fire..... if exposed to the hot components .......and it will be very hard to extinguish..... the spilt oil only has to reach a flash point before combustion..... you need to purchase a good spray on degreaser....Gunk is very good.....spray it on with your engine warm ......not hot.... let it sit for at least 15 min.'s...... then high pressure wash it till your satisfied....... just make sure your engines not hot before your cleanup begins , because much of your degreaser will evaporate......and you'll be creating a lot of condensation in areas that don't like that ...namely electrical components.......now that alls spiffy ,you can expect some foul smells as you resume driving.....but all will be back to normal after a couple of days driveing.........I bet this won't happen again..........Daryl
Put the lid on it- Take it to a do it yourself carwash %26amp; use the washer to clean the engine. Be careful not to direct the high pressure spray toward the electrical connections. Water on them wont hurt but direct high pressure spray will force water into the connections. NOT GOOD.
Wipe as much of the oil off the engine before taking it to the car wash that has a steam cleaner. Be sure to cover your Rotor cap with plastic. Then clean up. Should be good to go.
it can catch fire. use a good de-greaser you can buy at any autoparts store or even wal-mart and wash it off. make sure you replace the cap before you do that..
take degrease and spray it all over the motor and wash it off
If it will it will dry first I will spray brake fliud cleaner on it and spray it from a distance at a preshure car wash but sometimes the brake cleaner will clean it up let it dry.
Take it to your local carwash and use the engine cleaner. Wash it real good and you should be fine.
no i dont think it will catch fire, but you should clean it off, but you have to be very careful if you do steam it off, the ecm or the engine computer doesnt like to get wet, so keep water away from it, some car wash places, the ones that detail your car, can do it, they kinda know what to avoid when cleaning the engine, thats where i would start...
It will not catch fire, but is messy, so give it an engine clean off at a garage!
yes,it will catch on fire and i`m very sure of it.............take to a garage and have them cleaned it for you or if you`re planning to do it yourself be careful not to wet those engine wires to much,i mean the wires that comes from the distributor to the spark plugs,be careful not to wet the distributor also, wet wires and or electrical components of the engine means hard engine starting and this will burn your starter solenoid which is a little bit expensive and will drain the battery power.................the best thing is............call your insurance tow truck and have them bring it to your mechanic...........leave it to the experts.................
first buy some oil and a new cap, do the whole carwash thing that everybody else sugested but while your there dont shut the car off. if you get water under the cap/rotor it wont start for a while. prob only 45 mins but still an inconvienence
As above, give it a GOOD clean, but dont point the wash gun at battery, alternator or electrical components. And check(refill) engine oil level.

I have oil-fired hot water base board heating. Could I use an electric-fired boiler instead?

you have answered your own question Yes

the power of heating is not relevant to how the water is heated but the source of it,

    oil or electricity ?

one is surely less expensive to run then the other. make your choice.I have oil-fired hot water base board heating. Could I use an electric-fired boiler instead?
You could, the only thing is that I would check out the advantages of electric over oil. Such as price for oil over electric in your area. Both could be a problem such as running out of oil or an electric outage. I much prefer a gas boiler for price and less chance of failure to deliver heat when you need it.I have oil-fired hot water base board heating. Could I use an electric-fired boiler instead?
You can change to any fuel source to heat the water. check it from aspects. Call as many plumbers, heating contractors, and Mechanical Contractors that will come out and give you estimates for free.

Also, if I may suggest, look into solar heating, as it'll save fossil fuels, and you'll get a hefty tax break if you install it.
There shouldn't be a problem however I think you'll find it isn't cost effective. Using electric for heat or heating water has never been economical.

How to fidout the fire point of furnace oil?

for achieving complete combustion, up to what temperature furnace oil is to be pre heatedHow to fidout the fire point of furnace oil?
If you are preheating the oil in the tank you do not want to exceed the closed cup flash point of the oil. Home heating oil has a flash point of 125'F. If you store it above 125'F it could be in it's flammable range, and the tank could explode if there is a source of ignition.

Heavier ';furnace oils'; can have higher flash points. #6 fuel oil should have a flash point greater than 150'F.

Once the oil is being pumped to the burner higher temperatures are ok. Check with the individual burner manufacturer to get their maximum temperature. If the oil temperature gets too high it will start to boil, reducing the capacity of the burner.

Can you paint a fire door with oil base products!!!?

the fire resistant matierials like steel for example are inside the door so so painting it will make no differenceCan you paint a fire door with oil base products!!!?
    Is the door on fire??????
It is absolutely fine to paint a fire door with oil based paints. In fact it is the preferred paint for metal doors. Just DO NOT PAINT OVER THE LABEL. This is a code violation.
    Yes.....notice the ocupation
yes the purpose of fire doors is to prevent or slow the spread of fire , many fire doors are actually made from wood so the fact that it itself may burn makes no difference , besides it would take a laboratory test to determine what kind of paint you had used who's gonna pay for that !
Use water based products, but some of mine have been painted with oil based, and have passed the inspection test from the council.

    Signed Site Agent
You can paint a fire door with any paint you like. But if you are talking about a ';Fire Rated'; door, again the paint you use won't affect the doors fire rating, but drilling holes in it to mount any signage, or security peep holes will.

As long as you don't do anything to compromise the doors surface (paint won't) you'll be OK.
I'll dito that with the paint any normal suitable paint will do, the fire isn't a factor.

If you want to worry about fire factors then you must ensure that the door to the outside world cannot be locked from the inside with a lock that requires a key to also unlock it from the inside. The inside mechanism should be operable without the key.
he majority of fire check are wood ..you can paint them with whatever you want .no laws against it
I think you'll have to since a fire door is metal, right? Otherwise it would flake off.

Why do oil rigs always have a little fire burning of it?

A gas flare or flare stack is an elevated vertical stack or chimney found on oil wells or oil rigs, and in refineries, chemical plants and landfills used for burning off unwanted gas or flammable gas and liquids released by pressure relief valves during unplanned over-pressuring of plant equipment.

On oil production rigs, in refineries and chemical plants, its primary purpose is to act as a safety device to protect vessels or pipes from over-pressuring due to unplanned upsets. This acts just like the spout on a tea kettle when it starts whistling as the water in it starts boiling. Whenever plant equipment items are over-pressured, the pressure relief valves on the equipment automatically releases gases (and sometimes liquids as well) which are routed through large piping runs called flare headers to the flare stacks. The released gases and/or liquids are burned as they exit the flare stacks. The size and brightness of the resulting flame depends upon how much flammable material was released. Why do oil rigs always have a little fire burning of it?
They are burning off the natural gas that comes out of the ground with the oil they are pumping. Why do oil rigs always have a little fire burning of it?
They are just burning off methane that is coming out. It is sometimes difficult to capture the methane to make it profitable so some rigs just let it burn off.

My oil ran out on my oil fired boiler refilled but on restart it fires in short burst can i fix this myself?

will i need an engineer for this is there any riskMy oil ran out on my oil fired boiler refilled but on restart it fires in short burst can i fix this myself?
You have air in your line going into the fire box. You can get the air out of the line yourself but it can be a messy job.

It will work its way out if the boiler is working and you will get the short burst until it is all out. This is the air I was talking about coming through the line. The oil burns the air does not so you have what you refer to as short burst.

There should be no danger but will not hurt to stay close and watch it for a while until it settles down.My oil ran out on my oil fired boiler refilled but on restart it fires in short burst can i fix this myself?
Moisture might have had accumulated where your oil should be. I have encountered the same problem in the past in one of my repair jobs. The magic that I have learned from it is unforgettable. It is cheap and quick. I sprayed the chamber with WD-40 with 3 short spurts dislodging moisture out of it. It should work as well with your boiler. Good luck
Sounds like you got air in the line.
Don't attempt this yourself. It's too risky.
    i would get an engineer

My oil fired hot water heater broke and i need a new one. any one know the price of this job? thanks!?

Basically the tank was leaking water all over my basement and the tec said I need a new one. He said that water had gotten into the fire chamber.the tank is about 15 years old.if you know of any web sites that i could look up to compare prices that would help. i searched endlessly with no answers. thanks....My oil fired hot water heater broke and i need a new one. any one know the price of this job? thanks!?
Funny...this happened to us just 2 days ago. We live in CT. Water leaked out of the bottom seam all over the place. We replaced it with a good quality tank by Bock, 50 gallon, and the total cost installed was $2500. This included the tank, as well as the work of the plumber and heating technician. Unless you're really handy (can solder well), you'll need to call in the plumber; also disposing of the old one is tricky because it's considered hazardous due to the oil. Good luck.My oil fired hot water heater broke and i need a new one. any one know the price of this job? thanks!?
Check out Lowe's or home depot.. They a have all kinds of tanks to chose from. They will probably hook it up for you at a given price too.

Oh I just realized you said oil. They only have gas and electric. Sorry. I would go to a local oil supply company.
I would recommend goin to a plumbing supply store, or even the oil/gas company im sure they could help.

What is given off when oil reacts with fire?

You need to be more specific as there are many kinds of oil and it cannot be assumed that you are referring to for example oil you buy for your car. The chemical reaction will be different according to the properties of the oil thus the vaporised product will also vary.

The most simple answer is to say smoke is given off....What is given off when oil reacts with fire?
Oil is essentially a hydrocarbon. If combustion is complete, the carbon burns to carbon dioxide and the hydrogen to water.

    CO2 + H2O

What is given off when oil reacts with fire?
As oxygen may be limited with such a high energy fuel source, you will likely also form carbon monoxide (CO). Also produced will be hydrogen sulphide and other sulphide molecules. Hydrocarbons may not always be composed only of C and H: you will likely find oxidised and reduced forms of N, P and S in the vapour.

Also, if you put gasoline to embers, the result is also a larger fire.If you put oil into embers, will it turn into a big fire?
    yes it will

Will Coconut Oil Set My Hair On Fire?

If I put Organic (Nutivia) Coconut oil on my scalpp will that cause my hair 2 catch on fire if i'm in 2 much heat. Like Michael Jackson. Or does that only happen when near ANY open flame, even if you aren't 2 close. I don't want to have 2 dip and dodge the sun when putting this on my scalp, and if its not true please let me know THANK YOU. Will Coconut Oil Set My Hair On Fire?
No, it will not. don't worry, I did it tons of times. Coconut will not set your hair on fire. I am not sure if your is near flames, but sunlight wont set it on fire. Will Coconut Oil Set My Hair On Fire?

Looking for Oil-fired Water Boilers Price Comparison?

Hi, I am thinking of replacing my 30+ years old oil-fired water boiler used to heat up the house with forced water through radiators with a modern energy efficient unit.

I found some companies with real nice looking boilers on the internet but they did not put any prices! I just want ball park figures only for the equipment so I can decide if I can even afford it or not?

Thanks in advance for helping me out.Looking for Oil-fired Water Boilers Price Comparison?
Basic size steel units 85000-150000 btu with no domestic coils in it go for 1000-1700$. Cast iron boilers cost 10-15%more. all have an average eff rating of 80-86%. Energy kenetics boilers (System 2000) cost 2600-3300$ and have 85-92% efficiency. These are contractor prices not homeowners. Hope that helps. General install cost 3500-5500$ with labor and materials.

Is oil fired central heating any good?

We're having oil fired central heating fitted and I've heard lots of bad reports about it. We are having a grant towards it and oil is the only option. Is oil fired central heating any good?
Oil is fine. Its only drawback is that it burns dirtier than natural gas but who gives a crap. The world will soon be coming to an end anyway. Is oil fired central heating any good?
We had it at home for many years as I was growing up and what I can remember was we never went cold, its very hot!!! However, you can get a backdraft of fumes during windy weather, but that was prob due to my dad wrongly venting the whole thing in the first place.

I say go for it, especially with the likes of rip off British Gas etc etc
My parents have had oil fired central heating for the last 8 years and they think its great, in fact most of their neighbours and friends have the same. You do have to remember to buy the oil before you run out.
Depending upon your requirements i.e replacing or just wondering they are inefficient but if its not broken don't fix it the plumbing world is changing in the UK and I'm right on top of it the Canadian plumber
I had oil heat in a house i lived in and it worked well. You have to becareful to not let it run out of oil or you can damange the system. Also, since you fill it up all at once you get a hefty bill (or atleast i did) like $800. instead of having a monthly bill from the Gas co or the ELectric CO. ON the other hand though it lasts months and months. :)
The downsides are the boiler is noisier than a gas boiler, it is more expensive than gas to run and you are responsible for making sure you don't run out of oil. Apart from that, it's no problem at all. I like the idea of not being tied to one big supplier - many heating oil companies are family businesses.
It works just fine for me.
Ive had oil heat for a long time, and have no issues with it. New oil furnances are extrememly efficient, and historically oil has been cheaper than natural gas. Oil is safer than gas, and I find the oil delivery companies to be much better for servicing the oil burner than plumbers working on gas furnances.
I installed a central heating system in the house 3 years ago. I chose an oil burning boiler. It has worked well and is a good system. The downside is the oil price just now but I would recomment it.
It's not the most efficient but it works. Especially if it's forced air and well filtered.
I have oil powered and have no problem with it. Just shop around for the best deals when filling it up and try to organise a mass tank filling session in your local area as you may get a discount!
you can use gasoline but the fire marshall may think it is arson
Oil is OK as long as the price of fuel oil remains competitive. Oil has more BTU's then either natural gas or propane. It does require more maintenance. At a minimum the nozzles should be replaced and set once a year. Its a good practice to have it checked an additional time in mid winter.

If left unchecked, sot can build up in the flue passages and cause CO to enter the home.
VERY messy, dirty and smelly. My parents had it when I was growing up. The house was MUCH cleaner when they switched to natural gas. The BEST is radiant heating.
I've had oil in my last house the only downside about oil its pricey at the moment but so is gas ,but with gas im able to pay for it with a card when ever i need it but oil normally needs you pay a lump sum out straight away .

Thats the only thing wrong with it,it heats ur house it heats ur water and its cleaner than lighting a fire every day and its on and off when you want .
I have experienced both and no problems. You have to keep a regular check on the oil level and the oil company, after your order via phone come out within a week.
    oil is fine

we cant have oil or gas as we haven't the room in the garden would like it though
oil is the handiest source of heating, the only drawback is the high price of fuel, however, compared with other alternative heating options, it is still the most viable...

once you install Gas you are at the mercy of the gas suppliers, but with oil if you go the extra mile, get a solid fuel link up fitted which means you can heat your home by lighting a fire...

    regards
    would be very expensive

What is the electric cost to run oil fired home furnace?

Well it depends on the Power rating of the appliance.

It will be measured in Watts (example = 2kW or 2000W )

You can find out how much you are paying per KWh - Kilo Watt / Hour.

Using the power rating you can times it by how many hours you need to run the appliance and the kWh rating (pence) whic will give you the cost of running the appliance for that amount of time.

Matty :DWhat is the electric cost to run oil fired home furnace?
It is going to depend upon the electrical rating of the burner, pump, programmer, etc and upon the time in use. You should be able to find the electrical details from the manufacturer if you don't have them on the maintenance manual. When you have worked it all out you will find that it is a lot,lot less than the cost of the oil.

So why not enjoy life instead?

How is electricity produced in Hydro-electric power stations and oil fired power stations?

explain plz?How is electricity produced in Hydro-electric power stations and oil fired power stations?
A Hydro-electric Power Station uses the 'Potential Energy' (P.E.) of a large, dammed lake situated at a high point above the Power Station.

When the water is released (under control) and is allowed to flow by a pipeline to the power station, the P.E. is converted to 'Kinetic Energy' (K.E.) due to the force of the flowing water.

This energy is converted to 'Mechanical Energy' in driving powerful water turbines.

The turbines are connected by shafts to the 'Power Generators' where the mechanical energy is converted to 'Electrical Energy' which is then fed into the Power Grid and distributed to Industrial and Domestic users who convert the electrical energy into Heat, Light, Mechanical Energy of appliances...motors, compressors...etc...etc.

The Oil Fired stations have exactly the same sequence of conversions but, start with Fossil Fuel-fired boilers, (coal or oil), that produce high pressure, superheated steam which is used to perform the same function as the K.E. of the water (above), in driving the turbines.

(Gas turbines (very similar to jet-engines), are also used in the same way...these use burning gases in a stream of compressed air. This increases the thermal energy of the air (to about 900掳C) and, greatly increases its volume.

This high energy air is then used to drive the gas turbines after which follow the same energy conversions as above). How is electricity produced in Hydro-electric power stations and oil fired power stations?
In both cases the energy coming in is used to spin a turbine that rotates a coil in a magnetic field and that is where the electricity comes from.

In the case of hydroelectric power the water falls through a turbine and gives up its potential energy to spin the turbine shaft which is connected to a generator (coil with magnetic field).

In the case of oil fired power the heat from the fire turns water to steam and the steam goes through a turbine and gives up its thermal energyt to spin the turbine shaft which is connected to a generator (coil with magnetic field).
as the old saying before albert einstein time, energy cannot be created but can only be transformed

hydro-electric energy is tranformed from water mechanical to electrical.

oil-fired energy is transformed from heat to electrical.
Sorry. You are asking for about five textbooks worth of information, and it just won't fit here, even if we had time to type it up.

Take a course in Electricity and Magnetism in the physics department, or a course in Power Generation in the electrical tech department at the community college.

    If you need it sooner, go to the library and ask for books on power generation. Or you could do an internet search on ';electric power generation.';

Sorry. It's just too big a subject.

  • Can underground or undersea oil or gas become ingnited in any way, and then burn making a large fire?

Underground NO, there is no source of oxygen and no source of combustion.

As the gas or oil comes up and the pressure decreases and the volume increases, but it can come up under tremendous pressures. Once it comes to the surface and oxygen is available, that is where the trouble can begin. Can underground or undersea oil or gas become ingnited in any way, and then burn making a large fire?
There is a coal seam in Colorado that has been burning for several years. You can see it off I-70 between Grand Junction and Glenwood Springs.

Fire needs three elements to exist: Oxygen, fuel and heat. If any one element is missing there is no flame. Can underground or undersea oil or gas become ingnited in any way, and then burn making a large fire?
Fire depends on the presence of oxygen. If air can get to the fire then it will continue to burn. There have been coal mines that have caught fire and have continued to burn (or smolder) for years. I saw one such mine in Scranton, PA about 50 years ago. For all I know it is still burning. Most of the rock surrounding a coal seam has cracks, called joints or cleavage. This allows air to seep into the presence of the fire. Oil is a liquid and does not have cracks. Therefore it would tend to seal off any supply of air.

To sum it up, an underground (or undersea) oil or gas fire would be highly unlikely. I worked as a geologist for an oil company once upon a time and I never heard of such a fire.

    Cast iron.

Why is my oil-fired hot water baseboard heat burning so much oil? added a third zone, furnace runs constant?

We added an addition with the third zone, and the furnace was not heating the room - just ran constantly. So the plumbers adjusted the water temp to 170 degrees. Now the furnace runs most of the time, and we have consumed twice as much oil as this time last year. The room does heat well now.Why is my oil-fired hot water baseboard heat burning so much oil? added a third zone, furnace runs constant?
I don't want to ask a dumb question, but is your addition the same square footage as the original house?

    Some other causes might be;

    1. poorly insulated doors/ windows/ walls in the new addition

    2. poorly insulated piping in attic or crawl space of new addition

    3. much colder outside temperatures this year/ last year

    4. burner performance- get burner efficiency checked/ cleaned

Also- how long did the addition sit open before they got close- in. You might have been losing heat during construction causing boiler to run more. Why is my oil-fired hot water baseboard heat burning so much oil? added a third zone, furnace runs constant?
Compare outside temps between this year and last.

Make sure your t-stats are where they should be.
Do the math. You are using the same sized furnace with an additional zone!

Does fully comp car insurance cover you for accidental fire caused by oil leak in car?

yes it does just inform your insurance company asap.Does fully comp car insurance cover you for accidental fire caused by oil leak in car?
unlikely to as the policy wording will usually say you are responsible for keeping the vehicle in a roadworthy condition.

It could be argued that an oil leak would make the car unroadworthyDoes fully comp car insurance cover you for accidental fire caused by oil leak in car?
Yes it does. but before you make a claim check out what the cost will be cause you'll loose your no claims discount unless it's protected. And if it's for a car worth less than 拢1000 you'll probably be better off not claiming since by the time you've paid your excess and the increased premiums for the next few years you may well be out of pocket more than paying for a new car all yourself.
Definately. Fully comp covers you even if its your fault but your premium may go up if you claim
It should do, but be aware that the insurance company may try to prove the oil leak was known about, and you didn't get it repaired. Therefore you have neglected the condition of the car which contravenes the policy wording. It sounds harsh but I've heard of it happening.
There is no such thing as ';fully comp';. You either have comprehensive, which covers damage that is your fault that you do to someone else's property, or full coverage, which would include collision (sometimes with a deductible) and possibly fire and theft coverage. Which do you have? Read the policy, or call your agent to see. If you have full coverage, it will cover up to the value of the vehicle, minus your deductible if any.
yes, i think it should, if not cancel your insurance and go with another company.....
    Yes, subject to any excess
There are 3 parts to car insurance. First is Liability, which every car is required to have by law. Second is Collison and Third is Comphrensive, these are only required by law if you have a lien against the vehicle.

Liability covers victims of an accident you caused, not you or your vehicle.

collision covers damages to your vehicle in an accident that you cause.

Comprhensive covers non vehicle accident damage to your car, like hitting a deer, or a while driving a stone hits your windshield, cracking it, or vandalism.

Now based on what you said about an oil leak, if I was the adjuster, I would deny the claim, because you should have found the leak during normal preventative maintenence, which you should have fixed.
    Hello,

The answer is definately YES! if you have a fully comprehensive car insurance policy it will cover you for fire, even if you the policy holder caused the fire by accident. Fully comprehensive means just that, it covers you for all eventualities no matter who is responsible, %26amp; that's why you pay a higher premium than say just third party fire %26amp; theft policies.

**But you should definately check the policy T%26amp;C's documentation as there are limits %26amp; exclusions to policies aways.

**For example I live under a flight path but my home insurance excludes dam to my property from say a wheel that drops off an aircraft coming into land, etc. So always check the small print.

    IR
Yes fully comp will cover you, you may have an excess to pay but it will cover you..

One little note to our american collegues, the uk law works differently to yours

Any idea roughly what it would cost to install a new flue on an oil-fired boiler?

I have been told I need one to go up to the level of my roof (1 storey high).Any idea roughly what it would cost to install a new flue on an oil-fired boiler?
well now here is something I can help you with what with my being a boiler engineer.

Why does it have to go up so high ?

    email me rob.w.taylor@btopenworld.com

    Im in belfast tomorrow

Could the flue go through the wall to outside the yard as the main expense is going to be the stainless steel flue if not then the only option you will have is to extend it to 1ft above the roof edge.

Email me and we can talk further about itAny idea roughly what it would cost to install a new flue on an oil-fired boiler?
All flue terminations should end 2 ft. above the roof. Hvac supply houses sell different lengths of pipe. 10' would probably be around $ 20

  • I am looking to purchase a oil fired home boiler. Which is the highest rated for dependability?

i take you lI've in the north somewhere.....okay I've done plumbing and heating for 14 years...depending where you live i like two of the best ones ive seen when i lived in upstate NY....there was burnham boilers easy to clean, easy to take apart...small apertures though to brush out.....peerless was the first choice of mine, it was cast iron and held heat nicely...kinda a pain in the caboss to clean, but they were great, combined with a Beckett burner you had one mean heating machine...hope this helps....

What can you tell me about the Peerless oil-fired, natural draft boilers? ?

In terms of reliability, product performance, and other pros and cons what can you tell me about Peerless oil fired, natural draft boilers?

We are replacing our heating system and this is the one that we are most likely to go with. Our house is less than 1000 square feet, the furnace is old and we need to replace what we have with something more efficient. What can you tell me about the Peerless oil-fired, natural draft boilers? ?
what you need to do is look at the SEER rating, and also the warranty, try to get one with a 90% efficiency, also one with a very good warranty, also a company that's very reliable as far as cost is concerned and to fix any future problems. What can you tell me about the Peerless oil-fired, natural draft boilers? ?
If oil goes back up to $4 or better a gallon it would be cheaper to go LP gas and be able to get a boiler at 92% efficient. If you have access to natural gas it would be even cheaper.

Is it cheaper to have a 15 minute shower powered by electricity or a bath heated by oil-fired central heating?

Turning the electricity on for 15 minutes or running the oil for an hour?Is it cheaper to have a 15 minute shower powered by electricity or a bath heated by oil-fired central heating?
going by my old 'selectos burner'if i run it for one hour it will heat 30 gallon of water and heat four rads for 1/4 of a gallon of oil, cost about 50 pence,....if you run a electric shower for 15 minutes burning say 8 k.w at 12 pence = cost is 24 pence approx, but no more hot water. Is it cheaper to have a 15 minute shower powered by electricity or a bath heated by oil-fired central heating?
Both are cheaper than a luxury yacht. The important thing to remember is to take a bath or a shower when you are dirty. Taking a luxury yacht would be an expensive mistake!

I have a burnham oil fired boiler. How do i lower the hot water temp.?

You don't say whether the boiler temp or domestic hot water. Heres how to do either. .......(.domestic Hot water) ..Look for the aqua-stat. It should show different temperature setting. Unscrew the cover and turn the dial to a lower setting. Usually 150 is fine. If it gets too cold then turn it back up to 160. It is probably on 170 or 180 if it's too hot. Don't touch the limit control for the furnace. That one will have two settings. one for high and one for the lower temp. The aqua-stat controls the domestic hot water while the Limit control controls the heat in the boiler. Take a trip to Lowes/Home Depot and see what they have for boilers and ask about the limit and aqua-stat controls. This way you can see the difference. If you just want to lower the water temp on the domestic hot water and have a tankless you should look to see where the hot water exits the burner. You will see a mixing valve with a black knob. On the knob you will see increase or lower. The valve mixes more or less cold water into the hot water pipes.I have a burnham oil fired boiler. How do i lower the hot water temp.?
do itI have a burnham oil fired boiler. How do i lower the hot water temp.?
Take the plastic cover off of the t-stat controls, it is located on the front of the boiler on the outside. Once you remove the cover inside you will find 2 dials 1 for the high setting and 1 for the low setting, the high will tell the burner when to stop heating the water and the low will tell it when to come on. In other words it will keep the water temp in that range, pick what is comfortable for your needs. Hope I helped I have the same boiler and I usually adjust it in the spring and late fall, hotter in winter, cooler in summer.

Please comment on the wisdom of extinguishing an oil fire with water.. :)?

No you don't use water on a oil fire.

If it is in the kitchen and you don't have a extinguisher use flour, if your out side use sand or dirt

Never use water all that will do is spread the fire out. Please comment on the wisdom of extinguishing an oil fire with water.. :)?
stupid ,,,,water spreads it, the firePlease comment on the wisdom of extinguishing an oil fire with water.. :)?
Putting water on an oil fire is very dumb. The water would simply splatter the burning oil and create a bigger fire.

You need to use either a CO2 extinguisher or something that puts down a layer of foam on top of the oil.

    Zeba

  • What industry uses oil fired boilers?

Ideas are paper%26amp;pulp, powerplants, chemical. What else? and what country uses it in industry the most? What industry uses oil fired boilers?
Electricity generation is the largest single group of companies that use oil fire burners.

There are a huge number of other industries that use boilers to create steam or to boil liquids. How they are fueled depends on the cost of the available fuel and the factory design and the temperatures needed in the factory process.

Any company that uses an oil fired burner could easily convert to natural gas. Many homes in the North East are heated with oil fired burners, but almost no homes in the rest of the nation are, they use natural gas because the delivery system is cheaper.

The coffee industry uses oil fired burners (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffee_roas鈥?/a>

Thanks to the oil crisis of the 1970s when OPEC first flexed its muscles a lot of companies have converted to another fuel; propane, natural gas etc. Of course in the end they all are oil based gasses so they end up costing a lot of money. That's why alternate energy sources are so important. What industry uses oil fired boilers?
Boiler produces steam for heating/process use or driving turbinegenerators to produce electrical energygenergy . Fuel for the boilers commonly are coal/oil/natural gas or any other fuel gas/wood chips/ municipal solid waste/ biomass etc. Fuel is selected based on availability /economy/and type of boiler . Generally dual fuel firing boilers are prefered now a days, gas/ coal being the primary and HSD/Residual oil being the secondary fuel. Most of the boilers in power generation plants are like this.

All refineries still use residual oil fired boilers. Some process industry small capacity boilers/ heating furnaces are still using oil as fuel but most industries have switched over to other fuels since oil became costly .
    Oil industry
Any industry that uses large boilers usually has them set up to run on back-up fuel sources. I've worked in refineries, power plants, manufacturing plants, high technology research, office buildings and they all had boilers. Most were primarily fired on oil and a few only used oil as an alternate source.
Don't leave out transportation....ships, trains, trucks [diesel]

Today I had to start my oil boiler with the reset button it will get to temp, but then it won't fire back on ?

Is there any reason why it won't come back on when the thermostat calls for heatToday I had to start my oil boiler with the reset button it will get to temp, but then it won't fire back on ?
the nozzle probably needs replaced and electrodes cleaned and adjusted, also a new filter is cheap and cant hurt. this needs to be done by a qualified tech. dont keep hitting the reset as your pot will fill with oil and can be dangerous.Today I had to start my oil boiler with the reset button it will get to temp, but then it won't fire back on ?
Yes, definitely...the re-set button will not continue to work if there is a problem, as obviously there is. Better have a technician check it out to be safe.

Is it cheaper to have a gas fire on or a 3kw oil filled radiator to warm a 14'sq room up?

go for the radiator, convensional gas fires loose heat through the flue gases as where the oil heater will be near 100% efficient and they dont need serviced anually like the fire.Is it cheaper to have a gas fire on or a 3kw oil filled radiator to warm a 14'sq room up?
Electricity is always going to be the most expensive option. Is it cheaper to have a gas fire on or a 3kw oil filled radiator to warm a 14'sq room up?
Therm for therm natural gas is one sixth of the price of electricity.
It depends on the gas fire, some gas fires are over 80% efficient, and give more controllable heat, electricity tends to be more expensive, check your bills for comparison.
Are we talking today, as oil prices can vary.

Can I use an oil fired AGA to heat a boiler which will then be used to heat underfloor heating?

you will need a recirc pump to pump through the infloor

Can you put oil fired hot water base board heating on an interior wall?

To extend the existing baseboard along the exterior wall I would need to channel concrete where a door is so I would like to know can I go to the interior wall or is it so ineffective it is not worth doing? Can you put oil fired hot water base board heating on an interior wall?
It will lead to more distinct hot and cold zones in the room. Heat supplies, no matter what type, are located on the exterior wall, usually under a window or near a door, since this is where you lose most of your heat. If you put it on the interior wall, it will warm the room to an extent, but will not work well. Hope this helps. Can you put oil fired hot water base board heating on an interior wall?
You can extend the baseboard heat to the interior part, now, when doing so you need to be cautious because you'll create ';hot spots'; and uneven temperature distribution with the exterior wall and the interior wall, since as the person above said you lose heat from infiltration and the TD difference between the inside and the outside temperature.

If you want to get your room to a relative even temperature and use the interior wall for your extension i suggest you get a zone valve to control the interior part, if it gets really cold you can turn the interior wall side on and it'll help raise the temperature of the room and it will shut off at the temperature you desire.

You can do it just ENSURE you're not neglecting the exterior wall bassboard heater and that your exterior bassboard heater runs all the time.

You can also resort to heated floors if you really want =/

  • What would cause an oil fired hot water heater to give out brown water even after draining out and refilling?

The heater is less than 10 years old. It was drained when water was shut down for winter and refilled four months later. There was no water problem before this. Is currently beening drained weekly to lessen brown water. We have very hard water, but have never encountered this before. Also causes itchy skin. What would cause an oil fired hot water heater to give out brown water even after draining out and refilling?
If you drained it and left it full of air it would have corroded, if it was not glass lined. Now, the best thing you could do would be to run a lot of water through your taps to flush it that way rather than drain it. Or hook a garden hose to the drain connection and run water for a while without emptying the heater. What would cause an oil fired hot water heater to give out brown water even after draining out and refilling?
It sounds like mineral build up. If you have your own well, try adding a sand filter after the pressure tank, but before your hot water heater and water softener. You can buy or rent these from Culligan Water or Rain Soft to name just two.

When the oil splits in the floor suddenly the the fire starts why:?

if the water is pored can the fire be stopped OR

the fire will not be disappear? When the oil splits in the floor suddenly the the fire starts why:?
The flash point of the oil has been reached. Any fire can be stopped if the fuel is removed, if oxygen is removed or if the temperature is brought beneath the flash point of the fuel. When the oil splits in the floor suddenly the the fire starts why:?
It's possible if it's warm enough that some of the oil is in vapour form, and so will act as a fuel to keep the fire going.

Water and oil don't mix, so it's possible for the fire to continue when water is poured onto the oil. It can help to put it out, but not necessary. The best and safe way to put out the fire is by using a wet cloth. Place the wet cloth over the fire.
Because the oil is fuel and the fuel is one of the factors where fire starts and placed in the fire triangle. It will disappear somehow but it will start again

Good question for your local fire department. How can i prevent a fire in my attic? Cause the wood that hav used in the trusses of the attic is oil treated.?
Are you sure the oil is flammable? If it's not petroleum based it might not be.

If it is, then you'd need to cover it with something fireproof- maybe wrapping it in fiberglass insulation sheets. They make a spray on fireproofing for commercial buildings but it would be expensive and in the attic it might affect the way your house ventilates. But if it's lasted 35 years with no problem, I wouldn't get too upset about it. Make sure if there are any electrical circuits up there that the wiring is in good shape, a fire alarm system with a smoke detector mounted in the attic and the smoke detectors connected together might give you peace of mind. And you might even be able to install a sprinkler system for fire supression in the attic- it would be expensive, but would be the most fool proof.
Why are you so concerned about a fire in the attic? If the roof system has been there for 35 years I would say that's a pretty good track record. No bugs , no fire leave well enough alone!

Can you replace the tank only on an oil fired hot water heater and re-use the burner?

I have a 10 yr old oil-fired hot water heater that has started to leak from the top. I have been told I need to replace the whole thing, but it seems to me you should be able to re-use the burner since it is still good and replace only the tank itself. Are the tanks sold separately? would this save me money? Would savings from the newer ';more efficient'; burner cover the extra cost of replacing the whole thing? Can you replace the tank only on an oil fired hot water heater and re-use the burner?
Yes it can be done, not sure about where to buy tank separate though. I've worked with them and have interchanged parts without trouble. Can you replace the tank only on an oil fired hot water heater and re-use the burner?
I have one made by a company called Bock. The pipes at the top are designed to corrode instead of your tank. Problem is, most people don't replace them like they should. If it's just the tubes gone bad, you may be looking at about $15 for new tubes. The burner unit is usually sold separately. If you get a new tank from a different company, you may need to change the burner nozzle. Let the supply house know what burner you have and they should be able to help out alot.
I had my tank replaced last year for $1200.00 in labor (tank was under warranty, but was only around $300). My burner is only about 5 years old though. As far as efficiency goes, my burner is around 85% efficient. I don't think new ones are much better.

Sorry to say , but you're going to have to buy a new boiler and the price to have it torn out /replaced will depend on how many BTUs that you're looking for .Can a cracked boiler be repaired and roughly how much would it cost vs a new one? Oil fired hot water system.
Well depending on the make and age of the unit, if there are any replacement parts available for it. Get me the model and serial number from the unit and I can check to see if there are any parts available for it. You can check out our website

    www.phoenixairsupply.com
You will need to replace it. Check out the hvac ratings page at my source. Click on boiler ratings to compare brands. You may want to upgrade to a high efficiency unit.
I used to use a product in apartment roof units where replacement was not an option. it was simply called '; boiler sealer'; It was not available to the public but times have changed. Check in your area with commercial boiler service companies , or possibly find a welder with portable equipment. you will have to drain the system but it is cheaper than a new boiler

How do i reduce flame in my oil fired boiler?

boiler is in stanley cooker, and is over heating top plate.have had new stat fitted it made no changeHow do i reduce flame in my oil fired boiler?
Get an engineer familiar with your type of set-upHow do i reduce flame in my oil fired boiler?
You might be able to adjust that by changing the nozzle or the air setting. Not exactly a job for an amateur. You will save lots of money with the right set-up and having your nozzle replaced and adjusted should not be very expensive.
one thing you could do is

take a wire brush and clean the rust

off the burner and that may help.

use a shop vac and remove the excess.

that's something you can do for yourself
stanley cookers have a baffle that you swing across with a lever to give you cooking or hotwater make sure the baffle is in the position you want it , if the boiler has been serviced and set up properly dont touch the burner setting or youll end up with a very badly burning cooker , dangerous and not very efficient resulting in burner lockout

oil turned to tar, you may be better off just trying to replace every thing , scrub the cabnits down with a grease cutter, with a fine steel wool, pad, scrape what you can off walls with a putty knife, use a stain killer to paint over it,
Try Kilz Primer for the walls.
try vinagar. Mix it like 70/30. i had suet all over my walls and i didnt think anthing would work, and then i read in a home remidies book this idea. It works. good luck.
You have to take a spray bottle or a garden sprayer and fill with bleach and water, 3 parts bleach and 1 part water. Spray down the areas where it is damaged, and let dry good then you will have to KILZ it probably 2 coats.. My brother had a fire and it sooted up the living room and kitchen bad, not to mention the mess from the fire dept. So to make sure you kill the mold, use Bleach, and then kilz it good afterwords. This is what his Ins. Co. told him to do.....

By opening or closing the valve, you can regulate the amount of water flowing through the radiators.I( have an oil fired hot water heating system with the old style radiators. Some rooms are too hot. Does the?
Yes the valve controllers the flow and heat the radiator puts out, check and make sure that the rooms that are cold don't have air in them, there should be a bleeder near the top open it until water comes out.
I`m not sure what an old style radiator is. Does it have an in and an out if so only a smaller radiator will cure it. Flow is flow ,if you cut down the flow the temp will be the same.If you are talking about steam heat you can adjust the air bleeder open = hotter,,, closed =no heat
    Yes

What will make a jeep caught fire after change the oil?

i have the dealer check it and they say mybe the heat sheld may be the the problem i have call chrysler jeep but ,no body talk to me. the jeep is 1999 is under recall i need helpWhat will make a jeep caught fire after change the oil?
It could have been that they left the cap off and the oil leaked on the engine or manifold, causing the fire.

If this happened right after the oil change, I would be very suspicious that they messed something up. I would have an independent mechanic give you an opinion on what he thought caused the fire.

You may have a case against the dealer for repair costs. What will make a jeep caught fire after change the oil?
oil does not catch on fire!!! (only to prove above wrong) try it! thats why they use ity to lubricate the firing chambers. If it caught fully on fire you just have a major problem. But if it was just smoking they could have spilled oil on the engine or exhaust. they could have also not but someting back or tight enouf or at all for that mattter. I would take it right back to them if it was right after you got it done.

You would not want a fire in your attic whether the oil was on your trusses or not.

No spontaneous combustion will occur. The rate of time for the fire to ignite the wood with oil or not is not a big difference. The only possibility of the most disadvantage is, the fire may be a more difficult to extinguish.

Their are fire resistant coatings you could consider applying.

I would think the humidity is an issue as well. A coating could seal the wood from air and trap moisture. Dry rot could become your new enemy.

I would ask locals that would know some construction practice. I think they will say the same as me.How can i prevent a fire in my attic? Cause the wood that hav used in the trusses of the attic is oil treated.?

Can I replace an Oil fired boiler with a natural gas one?

I have gas in the house, and the oil boiler is very old. Is it possible to change heat types? I want the new setup to vent out thru a ventilation pipe so I can close the old unlined chimney.

And can I do it for less than $6000?Can I replace an Oil fired boiler with a natural gas one?
Depending on were you are the 6k should get it done, they may need to line the chimney and still vent thru itCan I replace an Oil fired boiler with a natural gas one?
If you have Natural Gas in the home, replacing the boiler is certainly possible. Most new high-efficiency boilers on the market are Direct-Vent or Power-Vent which allows the exhaust to be vented through standard gauge PVC piping. This will save you a considerable amount of money as lining a chimney is not cheap! As far as the $6000 is concerned, it's a matter of where you live, the size of the boiler, the condition of the existing plumbing and expansion tank. But all in all you should be able to get away with an installation anywhere from 4,000 to 8,000. The key is to find an installer that you're comfortable with, that you trust. It's always a good idea to ask any installer for references.

    Good Luck!
Yes, should be between $4000-$5000.00 on average.

A man walks into a dark room he has 1 match, there is a oil lamp, fire & candle?what does he light first?

the matchA man walks into a dark room he has 1 match, there is a oil lamp, fire %26amp; candle?what does he light first?
no need for the match if there is a fire!!!A man walks into a dark room he has 1 match, there is a oil lamp, fire %26amp; candle?what does he light first?
He lights the oil lamp w/ the candle, which was lighted by the fire, which was started by the match, which was lit first.
    the match...hello
The room is already lit coz there a fire ?

    :-)
The fire, then the fire can light the candle, then the candle can be used to light the lamp.
    THE MATCH THEN THE BLUNT
candle, than uses that to light the rest, unless he's GW than he eats the match and tells ever one terrorist made him do it.
    the match
He's got to light a fire, with the match.
    Nothing

He doenst have a match box to lite it
He lights the candle with the fire , then the oil lamp with the

candle and saves the match for later...
    The match
he light the candle with the fire.
i'd douse the room with gas and throw the match in.
    the match
He lights the match first. then he should light the candle to light the oil lamp and then start the fireplace. because a candle is easier to light than the oil lamp because the wicks can be tricky with an oil lamp.
HE SHOULD USE THE FIRE TO LIGHT THE CANDLE. THEN THE CANDLE TO LIGHT THE OIL LAMP. AND SAVE THAT MATCH
    The match
He shouln't need to light anything, there is already a fire.

  • How much does an oiled fired furnace cost? How much does oil cost?

The furnace can run from a little over $1,000 to $4,000 and up, depending on the amount of heat it has to produce (northern Minnesota needs more heat than northern Georgia), and the quality you want.

Oil is usually a bit more expensive than gasoline, but varies over the country probably from a little over $3/gallon to over $4/gallon.How much does an oiled fired furnace cost? How much does oil cost?
The question is to general. We need to know where you live as the cost of installation and fuel caries by region.

I sold a oi powered furnace in hte midwest this winter (about 70,000 btu and it was installed for $4100. the cost of fuel oil changes weekly/daily. check out your city, town, etc for prices. How much does an oiled fired furnace cost? How much does oil cost?
today i paid $3.70 a gallon for oil and that was with a 10 cents a gallon discount. my neighbor paid $3.80 a gallon from the same dealer but with no discount. 145 gallons

cost me $536.50 and that's for only 1/2 tank of oil.

if i could get natural gas (not bottle) i believe i would do that.

i only pay (only?) $2.93.9 for gas. go figure.

How do I turn on a oil-fired boiler?

Is there a button, do I light it?How do I turn on a oil-fired boiler?
If your system uses fuel oil (as I assume it does), there are two types of systems: 1. the oil simply gravity feeds into a burner pan and is simply ignited by a small wad of burning paper or other handy small burning object. ( My parents had this system when I was a kid in the 60's). 2. The oil is sprayed by a motor driven pump and ignited by a high voltage arc similar to an automotive spark plug. (more modern). This type requires only turning the system on and verifying that the oil is burning. How do I turn on a oil-fired boiler?
turn on circuit breaker and turn up thermostat
There is usually a red button you have to push to reset it. If you have a maintence plan it might be worth spending the $$ to have them come, clean your furnace, check the filters and they will do it for you.
I would respectfully suggest that if you not know, that you ought to hire someone who does. He can also do an inspection, which should be done at the beginning of every heating season.

Arguments for and against oil fired electricity?

I can't find anything on arguments for and against oil fired electricity for homework. If you have an answer can you please bullet point them. Thank you if you have any reasons and could you give me an answer quick.Arguments for and against oil fired electricity?
Oil is used to create gasoline, natural gas, or oil.

It is a hydrocarbon and the most common fuel used to create power in our modern industrial world.

Oil was created long ago, millions of years, when dead plant matter decays in an environment without oxygen like at the bottom of a swamp or the ocean. Millions of years of pressure and high temperatures are required to convert dead plant matter into coal, oil or natural gas.

Arguments FOR the use of oil.

鈥?Burning oil or any of its forms is easy.

鈥?There is a huge infrastructure (gas stations and pipelines) in existence to support it.

鈥?It is easy to transport at normal temperatures.

鈥?It is an energy dense liquid (meaning you can get a lot of energy out of a little bit).

鈥?Gasoline and oil vapors are flammable, but if stored in a tank with no air space then you don't have as many problems; only if it is released into the environment.

鈥?There is a large amount of oil buried under Saudi Arabia, the ocean floor and in the oil sands of Canada.

鈥?It is fairly easy to pull oil out of the ground.

鈥?It is not difficult to refine it; separate it into various products that can be used for several things.

鈥?There are a lot of existing power plants, with many years left on them, which can be used to generate electrical power.

鈥?It is the primary power for all automobiles.

鈥?Most portable electrical generators burn gasoline.

鈥?Oil is more energy dense than coal and burning oil to create electricity creates less pollution than burning coal. Nuclear power creates radioactive waste that will remain for thousands of years; much more dangerous than the pollution created by burning oil.

Arguments AGAINST the use of oil.

鈥?Burning oil releases carbon and the free carbon combines with oxygen in the air producing carbon dioxide (CO2) a greenhouse gas. Greenhouse gases are thick enough to trap heat in the atmosphere, and the rise in greenhouse gases is responsible for global warming. Most people believe that mankind is largely responsible for this increase. Plants breathe in CO2 and use the carbon in their structures. When those plants decay and form oil and coal then burning them releases the carbon that was locked up long ago. So we are not only releasing carbon into the atmosphere, but carbon that has been trapped for millions of years. We have been burning wood and coal (and releasing this carbon) since before the dawn of history; however in the last 100 years with the use of oil we have released as much CO2 as all of humanity has in the time before that.

鈥?We cannot continue to use oil at our current rate, not only is its supply limited, but it pollutes the environment creating harmful pollution like smog. Even if we burn it as cleanly as possible we still create greenhouse gases which are bad for the our survival since they will raise the temperatures on earth. Even a small rise in temperature can melt the icecaps flooding most of our cities (since most of our cities are on rivers or the coast). A significant rise in global temperatures can create a run away greenhouse effect resulting in an atmosphere like that on Venus. Humanity and most plants and animals alive cannot survive on such a planet and since this is the only planet we know of that can sustain life we are putting our very home into great danger.

鈥?Oil is a limited natural resource and we are burning a whole lot of it every year. It is becoming more difficult, and more expensive, to refine oil, pull it out of the ground or even to find new sources of it. Since it is so limited it and since it takes millions of years to create we will run out of oil at some point.

鈥?We also use oil to create lubricants, valuable solvents and plastics. By burning that oil we are depriving future generations of those. Most of our modern society uses plastics and most of our plastics are made with oil so we are competing with the use of plastics.

鈥?Iran and many other countries in the Middle East are not friendly to the Western World. One huge reason for the spike in oil prices is the simple FEAR that Iran might tighten world supply and so cause a shortage. With the falling price of oil OPEC has started to slow down production and tighten the oil supply to artificially keep the price higher. This has a strong effect on our economy. In the US most of our goods are shipped by truck so a rise in the price of oil causes a rise in the price of getting all our goods to market. It also causes a rise in the price of making most goods, a rise in the price of electricity, plastic and so on. It is very dangerous politically to have other nations control such a huge factor in our economy.

鈥?Drilling for, the use of and transportation of oil causes pollution. The Exxon Valdes created a large oil spill in Alaska severely harming the fish in the area; thus threatening the food supply (not EXXON still hasn鈥檛 paid the fine it was ordered to pay back in 2000, and has made more profit than that fine in a single month). Offshore drilling and the transport of oil causes pollution. The Alaskan Arctic Refuge has oil deposits underneath it; it also has some endangered life forms living on it. Disturbing that habitat with oil prospecting and drilling can harm wildlife. That is why it has been so unpopular to drill for oil there.

鈥?Extracting oil is not a quite process, pumps can be noisy and many citizens in Fort Worth Texas are mad at the drilling companies because they are drilling near their homes creating a lot of noise pollution.

The key factor though is economics. It is nice to try and save wildlife but it is not profitable. Burning oil for electricity is profitable and we have a large part of our economy base on it. Until that changes we will continue to burn oil. OPEC created an artificial oil shortage in the 1970s that eventually caused gas rationing in the US. Exploration of alternate power sources started back then, but as soon as OPEC resumed normal production rates most of those programs were abandoned and more investment was made in using oil in some form. Now OPEC has a even stronger grip on our economy and the Recession and Spike in oil prices that we have seen this year shows the danger of having an oil based economy.Arguments for and against oil fired electricity?
