Oil fires: You can't use water on oil fires as the oil will float on top of the water and spread the fire.
Use either CO2 or chemical or halon unit.
Electric: CO2 is NOT reccommended if power is still on. the current could follow the vapor stream back up and cause injury.
the best course is to make sure that the current is OFF!!!! Then use any type of unit handy. If you can't turn the power off, use a chemical unit for safety's sake. Why carbon di oxide fire extinguishers are more suitable for putting out oil and electrical fires than water?
welll, oil floats on water so that does nothing, and water is a conductor of electricity.
they use carbon dioxide beacuse it isnt flammable... this is apparent when you blow out a candle. we exhale carbon dioxide, if we blow on a candle we smother it with a non flammable chemical in the same way water does to fire.
