there is an old boiler behind the open fire with pipe's.Can you join a open fire to an oil burner, and how?
If your ';oil burner?'; system is open vented and has hot water cylinder, feed and expansion tanks above then the flow and return pipework from each boiler can be routed to one of these. http://www.dunsleyheat.co.uk/neutralizer鈥?/a>
and then on to your heating system.
Must check the condition of ';the old boiler'; first though! Can you join a open fire to an oil burner, and how?
DON'T even give it a second thought, it won't work, as it is very old, probably of about 11/2 - 2 Kw maximum, and an efficiency of 15%. Your central heating boiler 35Kw and 85% efficient, I have lost count of the number of botched installations with back boilers connected by householders who'; bless them'; thought they were doing the right thing.
We would need much more information to comment effectively. There are and have been a wide variety of ways to heat with more than one fuel, and there is a possibility that your system combines an oil fired boiler with a fireplace that incorporates hot water coils for heating with hydronic baseboard convectors or with radiant heat tubing in the floor or ceiling.
But from your question there is no way to tell. If you want you can add a more detailed description. Are there hot water coils in the fireplace? Selector valves? What kind of condition is the whole thing in?
Probably the best thing is for you to consult a local HVAC contractor who can look at the system up close. And remember that these devices should be professionally serviced before use and approached with great caution, especially if they have not been used for a while.
Cannot combine fireplace (solid burning) flue with oil burning appliance. Must be vented in separate flues.
