What is the best thing to do if your cooking with very hot oil and the stove catches on fire.?

I was frying chicken and the stove got on fire alittle. I didnt know were to put the hot pan so i panicked. Wheres the best place to put the hot pan and how to extinguish the fireWhat is the best thing to do if your cooking with very hot oil and the stove catches on fire.?
DO NOT USE WATER ON A GREASE FIRE! (see Tips) Start evacuating everyone from the building. Fires spread extremely fast and can overwhelm victims in minutes. Treat burns only after evacuating the building.

Call 911. There's no reason to wait, and the fire department can always go back to the station if you are able to get the fire out without help.

The easiest way to smother a grease fire is to cover it with a pan lid. Be careful with glass lids; they can break from the extreme heat of open flame.

Grease fires can also be smothered with baking soda, but it takes a lot of baking soda to do the trick. Unless the baking soda is easily accessible, it's usually easier to quickly find a lid.

A dry chemical fire extinguisher will also work, but it will contaminate your kitchen and food. Class K fire extinguishers are available to put out grease and other kitchen fires, but they are usually only found in commercial kitchensWhat is the best thing to do if your cooking with very hot oil and the stove catches on fire.?
The Boy Scouts have it right: ';Be prepared';. Before you start frying, have a suitable lid on hand. if the oil catches fire, turn off the burner and put the lid on the pan to extinguish the fire. A fire extinguisher is another essential to have on hand before you start with the cooking, but do be careful to have an extinguisher suitable for grease fires, and take care that you don't blow burning grease out of the pan with the extinguisher. The lid should take care of the fire in the pan. The extinguisher then is for anything that's still burning outside of the pan.

If your fire department or your company has fire extinguisher training, do take advantage of it. You'll be surprised at how short a burst of extinguishing you get from a small fire extinguisher. Practice in controlled, non-emergency conditions is the way to go!

Be sure to position yourself between the fire and an exit so you can run away if you don't get the fire out. Know when to fold. The kitchen can be rebuilt. You're much harder to replace.

You ruin the oil if you get it up to its smoke-point, and fires start at the flash-point, just beyond that smoke point. So, use the right oil and don't turn the heat up so high. (e.g. olive oil has a lower smoke point than canola oil).

Never take your attention off a pan of oil over a lit burner. If the phone rings, let the answering machine get it. You are busy cooking.
A grease fire occurs when oil or greasy foods are heated and ignite. The simplest way to fight a grease fire is to carefully slide a lid over the pan. Turn off the burner, don't move the pan, and keep the lid on until the pan cools completely. Baking Soda may also be used to suffocate the fire. NEVER PUT WATER ON A GREASE FIRE. Water causes the grease to splatter and the fire to spread. Also, NEVER attempt to take a grease fire outdoors. It will be too hot to carry and you will drop it, causing a major house fire.
you NEVER want to put water on a grease fire. NEVER NEVER NEVER! If the grease in the pan catches on fire take the lid that goes to that pan and cover it. that way the fire will loose oxygen and die. If you don't have a lid to the pan your using you can use a cookie sheet. i have big pots and pans that don't have lids and when i need one I use a cookie sheet to cover it. Make sure it's big enough to cover the whole top of the pan though or else oxygen will get into the pan and stay on fire and it might spread. If you don't have either of those suggestions use flour or baking soda. Don't use sugar it'll turn into syrup. Don't use salt it'll just burn through it. you really don't want to move the pan much because if the grease in it is on fire and your moving it you may spread the fire rapidly. If the fire is under the pan then move the grease to the next burner and use a pot or pan lid to cover the burner. It'll die slowly. The key is to get the oxygen away from the fire. That's what fuels the fire.
First of all ALWAYS keep your head...take a deep breath and then act on it. Baking Soda is great, flour too. Sprinkle it on the flames and keep sprinkling until it goes out. Like the others said.....NEVER NEVER add water to a grease fire...it can explode into larger flames and spread. Putting a lid on the pan can smother the flames. IF you can do that without getting burned yourself. Personally, I keep a large box of Baking Soda in the cupboard by the stove, in case of this very thing. It happened to me once, and yes the baking soda worked on my pan and stove fire. Our dinner was ruined, but the fire was out. And I had a big mess to clean up, but we managed to get it under control and out. I think we ended up having cereal for dinner that night.....but all was well.

Keep a clear head, take a deep breath, then act on the issue at hand.
the fastest way to put it out is, if the pan has a lid to it, put the lid tightly on the pan. the fire will extinguish itself due to lack of oxygen. if that's not an option, baking soda or flour are your best options. like everyone else said. DO NOT put water on it. my other advice would be to go out and buy an inexpensive fire extinguisher to keep in the kitchen so next time you know what to reach for.
Do not put water on it. The best thing is salt, baking soda or flour. Water can cause the grease to splatter on you and spread the fire. You can put the pan on an empty counter (padded for heat),in an empty sink or just leave it on the stove and extinguish without removing.
Wait... is the fire still going? If it is... wow. I can't believe you're askign this.

Okay, it probably isn't,so you should have:

1. Called 911

2. Put the oily fire stuf in the sink.

3. Get you extiguisher and start spraying until the firemen come.

4. If there's no extinguisher, round up the pets, babies, kids, other residents of the house and evacuate!
Cook in a pan that has a lid.

Put the lid on the pan and smother the fire.

Take it off the heat but do not try to carry it anywhere.

Do not empty into the sink.

Do not add water.

Scream for help,, but don't panic.
Never pour water on a grease fire, it spreads the fire. Dump a bunch of flour on it, and it will smother. Fire needs air. It's messy, but it works.
Never ever use water on cooking oil on fire. You will exacerbate more the situation. Just cover the pan with a lid to eliminate oxygen and it die off.
Put a lid on it. It will go out when it has no oxogen. Whatever you do, don't put water on it and don't move it!!!
One should have a fire extingusher in the house. If not throw salt all over the fire. Do not use water!
i would douse everything with water.

that creates steam, which is a cleanser
