Co2 fire xtinguishers r better 2 put out oil %26amp; electric fire coz co2 forms a layer over the fire that prevents O2 2 come in contact with the material and hence fire gets extinguished.
V shud never use water type xting. coz then there is a high chance of electrical short circuiting which increases the prob. rather than reducing it.
Perhaps v shud not use water in oil coz water settles at the bottom of the oil and hence has no effect on fire. But CO2 cuts off the main O2 supply and hence xting. the fire.Suggest why co2 fire extinguishers are more suitable for putting out oil and electrical fires than water?
Oil and water are insoluble. Thus, water will not mix with the oil to ';drown'; the fire. Water is also an excellent conductor, which means it will not help with an electrical fire. CO2 fire extinguishers work by depleting the source of the flames. Fires require a fuel to continue burning (typically oxygen, which is flammable and readily found in the air we breathe). CO2 is not flammable, so it is effective at putting out the fire by removing access to oxygen.Suggest why co2 fire extinguishers are more suitable for putting out oil and electrical fires than water?
Because oil floats on top of water (so the fire won't go out. it'll just float), and because water conducts electricity (so you'll probably get electrocuted).
