Foam, it will cover the burning oil and prevent the oxygen from feeding the fire.
Poorly trained use of a CO2 extinguisher could cause the burning liquid to spread. What is the most suitable type of fire extinguisher for use on an oil fire: FOAM or CO2?
Foam is water based, dry powder best for oil fires. We have to do fire prevention training yearly, one year the instructor was showing us how to put out a fire and added too much oil in the pan.
He then used a CO2 extinguisher to show us how to use them, the force of the CO2 caused the burning oil to fly on to the hut where he kept the extinguishers. The plastic guttering immediately caught fire and he had to call the fire brigade out, when they arrived his face was as red as the engine :))What is the most suitable type of fire extinguisher for use on an oil fire: FOAM or CO2?
Always foam.
Foam is best.
CO2
Foam. Never use water on an oil fire.
Foam.
Foam.
Foam, because co2 will just make chemical fires worse and Foam will put it out!
