The most simple answer is to say smoke is given off....What is given off when oil reacts with fire?
Oil is essentially a hydrocarbon. If combustion is complete, the carbon burns to carbon dioxide and the hydrogen to water.
CO2 + H2O
What is given off when oil reacts with fire?
As oxygen may be limited with such a high energy fuel source, you will likely also form carbon monoxide (CO). Also produced will be hydrogen sulphide and other sulphide molecules. Hydrocarbons may not always be composed only of C and H: you will likely find oxidised and reduced forms of N, P and S in the vapour.
