Kuwaiti fires were oil riges not a raging bush they used explosions to

take the oxygen away and then capped the pipe while they flames out

no expolish would be a bad idea and would not do a thingWould the firefighting methods like oil rigs put out by RED ADAIR to blow out the fire fronts in remote areas?
Before I get started with an answer, let me qualify my response by telling you that I have been in the fire service since 1994 and I am currently a paid industrial fire fighter in the oil fields of Texas (USA).

Ok, everyone sees the movies where they use explosives to put out oil well fires. It's true that sometimes explosives are used, but, it's not as often as you might think. There are other, safer, ways to put out an oil well fire.

If I understand your question, you are asking why explosives could not be used to put out the recent brush fires in Australia? One of the biggest reasons that I can see is the chance of scattering the fire into areas that are presently not burning. If you detonated an explosive device in a brush fire, it would most likely put out the fire in the spot where the explosion took place, but, it would scatter burning debris several meters in all directions, in turn, spreading the fire and making the problem worse.

The best way to fight brush fires of the magnitude seen recently in Australia is through education and training to the general public. Teach your citizens about weather patterns that lead to major brush fires, days with high heat, low humidity and high winds are the worst. Teach home/land owners about brush managment on their properties that can help prevent wildfires. Get the local news media in on the action, utilize them to spread the word about potential fire danger. Secondly, adopt new or enforce current burning regulations. Stiffer penalties for unapproved burning. Third, the local fire service can do alot through prescribed burning programs and lastly, the communities need to make sure that the fire service has the neccessary funding, training and equipment to fight these types of fires.

I hope this helps. Feel free to call on me if I can be of further assistance.
I think you're right. We sometimes forget the tried and tested methods and try something else. Are you going to e-mail the Australian authorities? It's a really good point.

Hellcat, why are you so rude? Couldn't you have just answered the question without this ridiculous tirade? Where do you think you're coming from anyway? Canadians and Americans have used Adairs methods very successfully over the years to bring all sorts of fires under control - look it up if you're old enough!
