No you don't use water on a oil fire.
If it is in the kitchen and you don't have a extinguisher use flour, if your out side use sand or dirt
Never use water all that will do is spread the fire out.Please comment on the wisdom of extinguishing an oil fire with water.. :)?

Putting water on an oil fire is very dumb. The water would simply splatter the burning oil and create a bigger fire.
You need to use either a CO2 extinguisher or something that puts down a layer of foam on top of the oil.
